What is an Audit or a Review?

A review can be thought of as a health-check: an opportunity to appraise the condition of your existing Health & Safety and Environmental policies, ensure that they are relevant and up-to-date, and identify any opportunities for improvement.

An audit is generally more formal: a structured process of collecting independent information on the efficiency, effectiveness and reliability of the total management system and drawing up plans for corrective action.

How are they important?

Even subtle changes within your business – and within legislation – can make your existing policies out of date. Potential clients may be less than impressed if your systems are past their sell-by date. If Inspectors identify a breach of law, you could be looking at a hefty fine or even a court case – not to mention the cost of delays and a damaged reputation. The best way to guard against this happening is to ensure all your policies and procedures are audited regularly. A good consultancy will be able to identify where your system can add more value than it is at present, and will be able to advise you on what needs to be done to get the best out of it.
